Jaipur has the second-largest count of study library listings in Rajasthan on one public directory, after Jodhpur, and most of them sell a full-day seat for about ₹500 a month. If you are opening one here, you are entering a price-sensitive market where RAS, REET and RSSB aspirants decide with their feet.
Quick answer
A study library business in Jaipur competes on a low fee: the 27 libraries we checked charge a median ₹500 a month for a full-day seat (range ₹350 to ₹1,200). Demand comes from RPSC, RSSB and REET aspirants plus central exams. Since June 2026, fire NOCs and exits get checked, so budget for compliance first.
Librify is a library management app for private self-study libraries and reading rooms in India. This guide is for owners and people planning a library in Jaipur. It does not rate or name individual libraries.
What drives library demand in Jaipur?
State government recruitment drives most of it. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board works out of Durgapura in Jaipur, and its exams (Patwari, VDO, clerk and others) pull aspirants from every district. Add RAS and other RPSC exams, REET for teacher posts, and the usual SSC, banking and UPSC crowd.
These students usually pay a coaching institute for classes and then need 6 to 10 quiet hours a day somewhere else. A rented room with three flatmates does not give them that, which is why a library seat is a fixed monthly cost for many of them, much like rent and the tiffin.
Demand moves with notifications. When a big state recruitment is announced, enquiries jump within days; after results, some seats empty at once. A Jaipur owner who tracks renewals by date sees this coming. One who keeps a register only notices when the hall looks half empty.
Where do Jaipur libraries cluster?
We read the street addresses of 51 Jaipur listings on Appu Library's public directory (appulibrary.com) in October 2026. In the city, they sit in residential and coaching pockets: Mansarovar, Pratap Nagar, Gopalpura bypass near Riddhi Siddhi, Mahesh Nagar, Durgapura, Tonk Road, Jhotwara and Sanganer. Outside the city, it also has listings in Chomu, Bagru, Shahpura and Jobner.
Two different businesses hide in that list. Near Gopalpura bypass and Mahesh Nagar, you are next to coaching institutes and compete with many libraries on the same lane, so price and seat quality decide. In Mansarovar or Jhotwara, students pick the nearest safe, quiet hall, so walking distance, girls' seating and evening safety matter more than a ₹50 discount.
Dense coaching lanes are also where inspections start. When a city runs a safety drive, the first teams usually walk the streets with the most institutes and the most students, so treat a crowded lane as a compliance risk as well as a competition risk.
What do Jaipur libraries charge?
The typical full-day seat in Jaipur costs ₹500 a month. The table below uses the lowest 30-day plan each library publishes on the same directory, read on 27 October 2026. It is one directory and a small sample, so read it as a range, not a city average.
| Plan type | Libraries | Range | Median | Middle half |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Full-day seat | 27 | ₹350 to ₹1,200 | ₹500 | ₹500 to ₹750 |
| Single shift (morning, afternoon or evening) | 9 | ₹250 to ₹1,000 | ₹500 | ₹400 to ₹600 |
Two things stand out. First, many Jaipur libraries price a single shift at almost the same rupee figure as a full day, which suggests they sell time loosely rather than seats per slot. Second, the fee range is wide. A library asking ₹1,000 or more is selling something visible: AC, cabins, lockers, a quieter floor or a better location.
For a wider comparison with other cities, see our study library fees across India in 2026. If you are deciding whether to sell full days or shifts, the multi-shift scheduling playbook works through the trade-offs.
How much can a Jaipur library earn?
A 70-seat Jaipur library at ₹500 a seat earns about ₹29,750 a month at 85 percent occupancy, before rent and bills. The 70 seats is not a guess: the median seat count across 33 Jaipur listings that published one was 72. The fee and occupancy below are assumptions, so swap in your own.
| Model | How seats are sold | Monthly revenue |
|---|---|---|
| Full day only | 70 seats x ₹500 x 85% occupancy | ₹29,750 |
| Mixed | 40 full-day seats at ₹500 + 30 seats sold as morning and evening shifts at ₹400 each, all at 85% | ₹37,400 |
| Premium corner | Same as mixed, plus 10 of the full-day seats moved to an AC cabin row at ₹800 | ₹39,950 |
The mixed model earns more only if the shift seats really fill twice. If evening demand is thin in your area, you have just cut the price on 30 seats. Track occupancy by shift for a month before you change the plan. For setup costs and break-even, read the 50-seat to 200-seat ROI blueprint.
Mistake we see often
Cutting the fee to ₹400 because a new library opened two lanes away. In a market where the median is already ₹500, a price cut mostly moves students between libraries and shrinks everyone's margin. Fix what students complain about first (noise, Wi-Fi, washrooms, seat clashes), then decide on price.
What fire checks and rules apply in Jaipur?
Fire safety is now the first thing an inspector asks about. After the Lucknow fire of June 2026, Jaipur authorities sealed 14 coaching centres and libraries and served notices on more than two dozen others (Daily Pioneer). The chief fire officer said about 600 units in the Heritage area had received notices since 4 June, including nearly 150 coaching institutes and libraries. Inspectors checked working fire systems, expired extinguishers, open emergency exits and valid fire NOCs.
The other rule owners ask about is the Rajasthan Coaching Centres (Control and Regulation) Act, 2025. The PRS legislative brief describes it as covering centres that coach more than 100 students, with coaching meaning tuition, instruction or guidance. A library that only rents seats does not coach. A library that adds mentorship, doubt classes or a test series may be treated differently, so ask before you advertise those.
Registration basics (shop and establishment, GST threshold, Udyam) are the same as elsewhere in the state; our library registration guide walks through them.
What should a Jaipur owner do differently?
- Check the building before the furniture. Confirm the floor is approved for commercial use, that there are two ways out, and what the fire department will ask for. Basements and narrow single-stair buildings are the riskiest picks.
- Price against your lane, not the city. Visit or call five libraries within walking distance, note their full-day and shift fees, and decide what you will offer that they do not.
- Sell shifts only where they fill twice. Coaching-heavy lanes often fill mornings; residential pockets fill evenings after work and college.
- Keep a renewal calendar. Most Jaipur seats renew monthly, so a missed renewal is a seat you are holding for free.
- Plan for recruitment cycles. Keep a waitlist when a big RSSB or RPSC notification lands, and offer short plans after results instead of losing the student completely.
If you are still choosing a location, read fixed vs floating seats before you buy furniture, because the choice changes how many seats you need.
Frequently asked questions
How much do study libraries in Jaipur charge per month?
Most charge about ₹500 a month for a full-day seat. In 27 Jaipur libraries we read on a public directory in October 2026, the lowest full-day plan ran from ₹350 to ₹1,200, and half of them sat between ₹500 and ₹750. Single-shift plans had a median of ₹500 across 9 libraries.
Which exams bring students to Jaipur libraries?
Mostly Rajasthan state recruitment. RAS and other RPSC exams, RSSB exams such as Patwari and VDO, and REET bring the largest groups, plus SSC, banking and UPSC aspirants. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board itself sits in Durgapura, Jaipur, so many aspirants move to the city for coaching and stay for self-study.
Does the Rajasthan coaching law apply to a study library in Jaipur?
Usually not to a seat-only library, but check. PRS describes the 2025 law as covering centres that give tuition, instruction or guidance to more than 100 students. A library that only rents seats does not coach. If you add classes, test series or mentors for over 100 students, ask your district committee whether you need registration.
Do I need a fire NOC to run a library in Jaipur?
It depends on the building, but expect the question. In the June 2026 drive, Jaipur fire officials asked coaching centres and libraries to produce valid fire NOCs and checked extinguisher expiry and emergency exits. Ask the fire department which category your building falls under before you sign the lease, not after the first inspection.
Is ₹500 a month enough to make a Jaipur library profitable?
It can be, if the seats fill and rent is sensible. At ₹500 a seat, a 70-seat hall that is 85 percent full brings in about ₹29,750 a month before costs. Selling morning and evening shifts separately on some seats lifts that number. Check your own rent and electricity bill against it before you commit.
